Woman's Dress and Hat

Early 1940s
Designed by John-Frederics, Inc., New York (1928–1964)
This striking daytime ensemble was made by the partnership of John Pico Harberger (later Mr. John) and Fred Frederics, who were best known for millinery. Here the effect of parti-colored red and black sinuous silk jersey extends from the hat, with its twisted topknot, to the dress, in which clever pleating onto tapes eliminates the waist seam and drapery is interlaced at the neck.
